Eczema and Skin Disease – Fixing Faulty Genes -7pm, Monday 28th January 2013
If you suffer from eczema or one of many rare skin disorders you won’t be surprised to learn that one in six visits to doctor surgeries involve a skin condition. However, the study of our skin is one of the most neglected areas of medical research.
So what causes skin disorders? Researchers at the University of Dundee have a strong track record in uncovering faulty genes involved in skin disorders and more recently, in developing new treatments based on their discoveries.
This event hosts a talk from Professor Irwin McLean, whose lab has discovered many gene defects causing both common skin diseases such as eczema, and rare skin disorders such as the skin blistering condition epidermolysis bullosa. Irwin will outline recent advances in the understanding of skin conditions and the on-going efforts to develop better treatments.
Join us at the award winning Chambers Coffee House and Restaurant, 34 South Tay Street for this intriguing discussion on Monday 28th January 2013 at 7pm.
This is a FREE event and EVERYONE IS WELCOME. There is no need to book in advance but arrive early to avoid disappointment.
